Why I created unihaven
EMILY GADDINI, FOUNDER OF UNIHAVEN
I created UniHaven because I experienced firsthand how challenging the transition to college can be. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and later moved to Southern California for school. While it was an exciting opportunity, adjusting to a new environment, finding housing, and navigating living with roommates while balancing academics and a social life was not always easy.
For many students, college is the first time they are living independently. Along with school, they are suddenly responsible for finding housing, managing a living space, and coordinating with roommates. These challenges can have a major impact on a student’s overall college experience.
While completing my undergraduate degree at Chapman University, I began thinking about how there could be a better way to support students during this transition. I noticed that the process of finding roommates was often scattered across social media groups and informal networks that were not designed specifically to help students find compatible living situations.
I graduated from Chapman University in 2024 and am currently pursuing my Master’s degree at the University of Southern California. During my graduate studies, I was able to begin bringing this idea to life by developing UniHaven as a platform designed to simplify student living.
UniHaven helps students connect with compatible roommates while also providing helpful resources that support everyday living. In addition to roommate matching, the platform connects students with trusted services—such as our cleaning partner—to help maintain comfortable and organized living spaces.
My goal with UniHaven is to create a platform that helps students feel more supported during one of the most important transitions in life and makes student living easier.
